Had a couple of autos in the past and the thought of them stalling never entered my head.
And they never did.

Never had a CVT before.
Are they they supposed to be able to stall?

Am I just plain ignorant?

Starting from cold this morning.
Switched on.
Waited for the revs to settle a bit.
Put it into 'drive'.
Phut.

How concerned should I be?

If this is the only time it has happened then I wouldn't be concerned about it, if it happens again take it back to the garage.

This used to happen with my automatic Oldsmobile Cutlass when I moved from Texas to Utah. This car didn't like the cold.

It was related to the O2 sensor being set wrongly for the expected temperature range.

Easy fix at mechanics, though.

Our CVT stalled half a mile from the supplying garage. But that was because they forgot to put any petrol in. Cost them a whole tankful.

Thanks for that.

I was thinking of taking in today
(the dealers are just around the corner from where I work).

But then I ran through the inevitable sequence in my head:

"Sorry sir, we can't find anything wrong."
"But"
"Seems to work perfectly when we try to start it."
"But"
"We've never heard of anything like that before."
"But"
"If we can't reproduce the problem then we can't fix it."
"But"
"Are you sure you didn't dream it?"
"But"
"Sir"
"Oh never mind"
"Be sure to tell us if it does it again."

"Sir"

I've only had the car nine days and up until now I've been starting in sub-zero temperatures, so I've let the car warm up before moving it.
Today it was +4 degrees, so I only waited a few seconds.

I've been extra careful since then (tentative actually) and it has done it again.

On the morning in question the revs were somewhat irratic.
I'll just have to watch out for that in the future.

My brother-in-law is a rev
, and erratic is probably a good description, especially as he totalled my Celica
.

Once attended a Christmas Eve midnight mass and when the clock struck twelve the minister started to welcome in the New Year!

He later married Mrs Siemarque and I - fortunately to each other!
