Well as I have widely documented I am none too happy with
the mpg I am achieving from my diesel it
is returning poor mpg compared to the
recommended figures. Now Nissan have had it out for the day with 2 tecs from Head office and the results quite frankly are
astounding they recorded the best ever mileage
I have seen on my car of 56mpg over a combined route but what i really was
gobsmacked with was the other info they told me about my use and averages of
fuel each week and that during my 1400 miles
my car had regen’d twice which
apparently is normal basically their is
no fault with the car and all is working well.

I have already
written to Nissan accepting their findings and realising that maybe my decision
to buy the diesel was not the right choice for me, in fact a dealer principal
told me that had i gone to him he would have talked me out of the diesel given
my short local use.

Now I purchased the diesel for several reasons economy and
resale being the main one but as it appears the petrol Juke is selling well and
possibly better than the diesel I doubt come resale time a petrol will be a problem
to shift I have experienced selling issues with petrol cars we had before and
had they been diesels they would have gone quicker.

So now my dilemma is this do I swap my diesel Juke for a
petrol in the hope it will return same
if not better mpg figures even if it only returns the same I will be better off
as diesel is dearer. My worry however is that although most people are
recording good mpg given my journey’s are only 5 miles will I still have the same issue again eg say petrol figure are 38 combined and because
the way I use it I only 24 then I will
be far worse off.

What i need is to use
a petrol for a week to see if that will be better or not just hoping I can find a friendly dealer to lend me one
for a week to try. Not worried about depreciation of my diesel in p/x as have
been given an offer to change at a figure that works for me its about whether
long term I will be better off by changing than I would by not.

In defence of Nissan I have been very vocal in my opinion of
the MPG issue as I felt it wasn’t right
but I kind of knew and have since had it explained to me that euro1V
legislation is going to harm diesel consumption and in fairness I am of the
opinion that the next couple of years will see a large swing back to petrols as
these become more fuel efficient.

So I do have to apologise to Nissan as since I shouted to
the top they have done all within their power to sort this issue out and it
just clearly is not suitable to my use .So I have to spend a couple of days thinking
seriously about what to do and whether the change from diesel to petrol will be
right as once i have done it that will be it stuck with it.

So friends what do we think stick with diesel of swap to a
petrol? I love the torque and grunt of the diesel and much prefer the gearbox
on the diesel to the petrol I have only
used a petrol for 8 miles on a short road test and really don’t know if it
would be right, that said it is my wifes car and she doesn’t care about all
that stuff I mean she thought a Picasso petrol 1.6 was the bees knees.She just
likes the driving position and looks
both will be the same its all down to economy and future value really

Personally I love the car. I've not tried a Diesel so no idea about comparison, but it certainly pulls away from the line and shifts a lot better than I was expecting it would for the n/a petrol. I think it needs a 6th gear, but this isn't something which bothers me as much as some. If you are only driving around town, then it won't bother you at all as you do 30mph in 5th...

I have no problems overtaking when I need to, even with 4 other people in the car (which I do a fair amount). The computer shows very high mpg on the bar graphs for all my short town journeys, but I suspect this isn't the true value so I wouldn't trust it.

I really understand your issue but dont know what to suggest as I like you have the same issues - I would perhaps ask to test drive petrol demo for a week to see if its going to be suitable.

That way you are doing the mileage you woudl normally do and you will be able to see if its fits in with what you are looking for - That way you're not going in blind..

After that its up to you...

But how did they get the low mpg value?Besides a course differente than yours, they achieved that value in a city course?

Don't know if i can be of much help since i'm on the verge of ordering a juke and still my great dillema is petrol or diesel, but i guess that in your case, maybe petrol would be better.

Hey Deks - what a dilemma - I can only suggest you get hold of a petrol engine and give it a good couple of days in different driving conditions to see if the engine, gears, torque are at all acceptable to you after a few hours driving. Then sleep on it and drive it again. This will give you an idea of how you would feel if you traded the dci - I do feel for you as I know you love the little Juke x

Considering you will lose a lot of money buying another new car so quick this will make no difference to what you will save?

My wife bought a petrol 1.6 Tekna manual last October. I knew it was never going to set the world on fire as far as fuel consumption was concerned, but given the pattern of use (daily commute 2 miles each way, occasional 5 mile trip into town & infrequent longer trips out) we decided petrol manual was the right choice for us.
My wife previously had a Freelander diesel, and we never bothered checking fuel economy (too scary). The Freelander had a fuel burning heater which used diesel to accelerate engine warming when ambient temperatures were low so I shudder to think how many gallons to the mile she really got.
She loves the Juke, she rarely gets above 50mph on her travels so the lack of 6th gear isn't an issue. It's only got 700 miles on the clock, the trip computer says it is averaging 31mpg. We will be taking it on a 700 mile round trip at Easter when I will probably do a brim to brim economy test. I will not judge the fuel economy of her Juke on the worst driving pattern possible.
It's a joy to see the smile on her face when she gets into the car. She doesn't give two hoots about fuel economy, lack of 5th gear, notchy gear change (5-speed). She loves the driving position, the heated seats, auto wipers & lights, and above all the unique styling, not forgetting the best colour of all, red of course!

I see what you mean but I have put a deal together that I am happy with that wont finacial hurt me as much as it could its more about will it be right
I should also say I do less than 50 miles a week on average we have had the car since 6th Nov and only have 1400 miles on it and thats after 2 trip to the airport 280 miles and 2 trips to myy parent 160 miles so take those off we would be on 900 miles in 12 weeks

Hi again Deks - forgot to say that there is a positive side if you do change your Juke - you could always go for the true colour of choice - white (we know you want to) lol

Firstly Deks I think you need to be happy & I dont think you are, especially as youre not bothered about losing on a P/X

Secondly I think you need to drive a petrol one a bit longer & give it some welly. Even if you can just do a small journey that would be done on a normal dayby you& compare both cars for that journey. Even if you drove & was followed by someone in yours. Maybe that would give you a better idea. Ive always had petrol cars & my xtrail gave me excellent MPG, Im the same local only mileage & not much of it.
What model were you thinking of? The same or an upgrade?

sally thanks for info I would be going for same spec I dont want the teckna as I dont want the leather seats(I HAVE MY REASONS)
In answer to others about colour no I will be sticking to the red if I change in fact the car will look as mine does but with a petrol
shame I cant get my hands on a CVT though I doubt that would be any good on fuel for me either
who knows will have to do lots of thinking over the next couple of days.

Is it possible to remap it or put a tuning box on it?

My hubby did this to my diesel and my mpg went up as well as the speed.

I would be worried about changing it with the extra cost for a few extra mpg.

at least keep it 12 months you wont lose much more keeping it

I agree with other posts saying about taking the petrol for a proper test drive, that way if you still dislike it the discision is made and if you love it, Job done :D

which petrol model,if you changed would you consider?In all seriousness ,if you wanted to experience a Petrol DIG,I'm in Essex,,can't lend you the car but can give an extensive trial.

Only thing though - We cant trust them - sorry - I think word of mouth is far better than their figures.... Way too optimist I think
