Help! CVT issue

Can anyone help with this please:

I purchased my Juke Tekna CVT (Auto) from a garage in Newcastle on 5th June 2014 (it was not a Nissan garage but a well known dealer group) – with approx 5,000 miles, one owner for the sum of £12,000. Still with 6 months manufacturer's warranty on it. I am the 2nd owner. It is an automatic - I only purchased this car as I needed an auto having had a nasty knee injury.

Sadly since September (2014), after only having the car for 3 months, I have had nothing but trouble with the car – namely a loud screeching noise on some (not all) cold start-ups (not every day) when putting into reverse/drive.

My local Nissan garage looked at this and advised me it was linked with the gearbox. On further investigation the garage told me a new gearbox was fitted in March 2014, with the first owner (at approx 4,000 miles). I was not told this when I purchased the car in June. I may not have purchased the car had I known this history.

Since I have owned the car, the gearbox has been replaced a further two times; at 8,000 miles (on 1/10/14) and also at 10,000 miles (on 18/11/14) – I cannot believe the gearbox is actually the problem – a car on its 4th gearbox at just 10,000 miles is unheard of!

Nissan have extended my 3 year warranty for a further year until November 2015 (free of charge). However, as of today, Nissan have told me they can help me no further on this. Nissan have told me that this is not a major problem and occurs due to oil not getting around the engine well. I asked if they could put this in writing that this was not a problem and would have no long term effect on my car. Nissan declined!

I am now worried there could be a long term affect caused by this 'noise'. I feel that I am being left with a car that I have no faith in and will struggle to sell in the future.

Thank you for your time. Any ideas what I should do next?

Regards,

Charlotte

Hi Charlotte,
I have the same problem as you on my Juke auto - it's a 13 plate. I also had the same problem with a Note which I traded in, hopefully to get rid of the problem. No technician in 2 Nissan dealerships could diagnose what was causing this problem so I got rid of it and replaced it with the Juke. I even contacted the top man at Nissan UK, but he handed it off to customer service who were useless. Now the Juke has the same problem. Just as before, a third Nissan dealer cannot tell me what's wrong and Nissan customer service have been no help either. I actually recorded the noise on my phone, but that wasn't good enough for them - they had to hear it for themselves. So, I left the car with them for a week as the fault is intermittent, but nothing happened - or so they told me. They did fit a fan belt and tensioner from a donor car, but I'm not hopeful and it's too early yet to see if this will make any difference. Can you keep me informed if you get a solution to this and I'll do the same?

I bought a brand new Juke 1.6 automatic Nov 2014.
I broke down 60 miles from home.
I was towed home and arrived back at midnight on Friday.
Next day it was picked up from my home address in Portsmouth and towed to Nissan Westway in Southampton.
I just got a call from the dealership tonight to be told a new gear box was needed and it would take up to 4 weeks!
What do you think to that?

I bought this automatic car in July 2014 from Nissan dealer, the car was classes as USED car as it had already been driven for a few months for 2000 miles. I loved the exterior design of the Juke and was impressed by its interior system panel which includes touchscreen sat nav and media system, AC & heating system, options to drive it in three modes ; normal, sports as well as economy mode. Dashboard displaying the meters and fuel indicator was more than satisfactory as well.

The only negatives at the time I identified was rear passenger space for kids to be limited and the boot space also not satisfactory to family needs. Also to my astonishment it didn't come with a spare car wheel option !

Run smoothly from july 2014 right upto July 2018 untill when I came across rattling/ grinding noises from underneath the car. Then i experience a maneuver failure after it started up after ignition but failed to drive after releasing the handbrake and warning lights coming on. Retried the process and the car run as normal but rattling noises remained . Got it checked by a local garage who thought it has got to do with automatic gearbox transmission bearing collapsing possibly. Did independent research online only to find a few websites especially
this ; httpss://www.jukeownersclub.co.uk/forum/13-technical/23831-automatic-gearbox-2013-juke-tekna.html#/topics/23831

... That this car has automatic transmission gearbox issues and most Juke owners on this website have reported that they have experienced this issue when their car have crossed close to or just around 30,000 plus mileage.... To my shock that is exactly the case with mine as I had done 31,000 miles when I first experienced this issue two months ago. As it stands right now that car has finally failed to startup last week Saturday (08/09/18).. and RAC Breakdown assistance have identified a gearbox issues which seems common with this model. Cost of repair according to RAC from a specialist transmissions service centre is approx £2000. From the website listed above many Juke owners have mentioned similar figures for repair and for new gearbox to be around £4500-£5000 plus. Apparently if you happen to be unfortunate like me and many other Juke owners with this common issue you will find that in 95% of cases it would have occurred when the three years warranty has expired by now !!! I have had another check on the car from another local mechanic in Blackburn who is reputable and he has said it requires a new gearbox. I have been to a Toyota dealership to trade in my Juke for a new Toyota car Instead, salesperson said after his conversation with Nissan that a repair of gearbox will cost between £2800-3000 and a new gearbox will be £4500 !!!

I spoken to Nissan and they have asked for it to be towed over to their local dealership store where it can be assessed by their service centre( which will cost me !) and then they will be in position to tell me what gesture of goodwill compensation they can offer me. From the website listed above, one of the Juke owners mentioned that he was offered £300 in vouchers !!! Should I even waste my time taking it to Nissan dealer ???

I am stuck as this car is not driveable as of now and I am suffering great inconvenience. A car 5 years and 6 months old from march 2013 should not have huge failure of automatic transmission gearbox. I have had it in my possession for only 4 years and two months to be precise and would not recommend this car to anyone. I would advise all new and old Juke owners who have yet not experienced any issues to be on their guard and watch out for this issue.

I will never in life again by investing in any Nissan model.

Same thing just happened today. Took my mother's 2013 Juke 1.6 CVT for a run and a car wash.

Didn't notice any issues (I'm not familiar with the cars character as I don't drive it) until I pulled away from traffic lights.
Car moved off and then started "Bunny-hopping" as the speed got to about 10 or 15 kph.
No dashboard warning lights. NADA.
Let it sit for 30 mins, and same happened again.
Waited about 1 hour for the roadside rescue. They only found 1 fault in the diagnostic odbc... Speed sensor.
But then, car drove ok. Dropped it to the dealership, 5 mins after they shut for the day.
Will see what they say tomorrow.

F'ing car only has 15k km on it!
If it's the CVT.... Nissan/Renault will be indefinitely off the shopping list!
