Flat battery on new juke 2016!
My girlfriend bought a new Nissan juke n connecta 1.6 auto 2 months ago and it has only done 260 miles. She parked it yesterday and 12 hours later after work she could not start it. She called the RAC who jump started the car for half an hour....even then the rac man said the battery is not holding the charge and to contact the dealer. The dealer was very good and sent someone out and fitted a new battery. I have these questions,,,
1. Why should a battery go flat on a new juke....could there be an underlying fault and a "parasitic drain" on the battery. On google there are many stories about this.
2. Could it be just bad luck and the battery was faulty?.
3. The headlight control arm/switch has been set to auto since the car left the dealer and has been on auto for 2 months. This means the headlights automatically come on /go off according to weather conditions. Also with this switch set to auto this switches ALL exterior light OFF approx. 45 seconds on exiting the car. My girlfriend ALWAYS waits for the auto wing mirrors to fold in and ALL lights to go off before she leaves the car....and we are both sure the dead battery is not her fault.
4, In the users manual it says for "extended periods" the auto light switch should be switched to the OFF position ..but doesn't say why this has to be done...why is this?..and how long is an extended period?...a week a month?. This autolight switch was left on AUTO for 2 weeks in my garage when the car was unused and the car started first time after those 2 weeks (about 3 weeks ago). I can`t help thinking that there is an underlying electrical fault and the same thing (flat battery will happen in 2 months and my girlfriend will be stranded. Any advice greatly appreciated...thanks (we are in UK)
